MCSCA/NJSCA Counselor of the County Guidelines

New Jersey School Counselor Association Counselor of the County Criteria for Nomination 2024-2025 The New Jersey School Counselor Association would like to recognize individuals who have made major contributions to the counseling profession with the annual "Counselor of the County" awards.

 The purpose of the award is to recognize a counselor for outstanding service and achievement. In addition to the recognition given to the award winners, positive public attention is focused on school counseling. 

Eligibility for Consideration: 

A. The county nominee must currently be employed as a school counselor/lead counselor/director/supervisor and have completed three consecutive years of counseling service. 

B. The nominee must hold a Master's Degree or equivalent in School Counseling and be certified as a counselor by the state of New Jersey. 

Criteria for Recognition: 

A. The nominee should possess the personal qualities desirable in a school counselor. 

B. The nominee must have been responsible for innovations in guidance and counseling programs, for demonstrating leadership in school counseling, and for performing an outstanding service to the school or community. 

C. The activities or accomplishments recognized must have taken place within five years prior to the date of presentation. 

Membership: 

A. The nominee must be an active (paid) member of the Monmouth County School Counselor Association for the current year (2024-2025). Dues Payment: $15.00. www.mcsca.org

 B. The nominee must be an active (paid) member of the New Jersey School Counselor Association for the current year (2024-2025). Dues Payment: $40.00. www.njsca.org

Please Note: A candidate must be an active (paid) member of the Monmouth County School Counselor Association (MCSCA) and nominated with supporting evidence, by any active (paid) member of the MCSCA or the Monmouth County Guidance Directors Association (MCGDA) by Friday, January 31, 2025, or by such date as to comply with NJSCA requirements. The nomination form may be mailed/emailed to the chairperson. The nominee will be notified by the chairperson to complete the application by Friday, February 7, 2025, for the review process which will take place in February 2025.

*The successful recipient will be recognized at the NJSCA Luncheon/Reception held in the spring 2025 (“in-person” or virtual - TBA). Following this statewide reception, the MCSCA will recognize the recipient during the June 2025 meeting. *
